~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ At the core of the country is the centralized Whazzap Village. While not the only of its kind throughout the land, this particular village holds a vantage point of social and religious prestige and power, due to its personal proximity to the Whazzap Lines and, beyond that, the largest ruins of the Murians of old.
The Whazzap Lines are located in a large, cleared out space deeper into the village. The valley which holds these lines within it also holds a large mural along its walls, depicting the succession of the three most famous tribes of Mu: The conquesting and powerful Berzerkers, the ruthless and destructive Saurians, and the clever and careful Ninjas. The Whazzap Lines depict different symbols of power from the tribe of Mu, each provided with their own unique inscriptions.
Under the direction of GSP, Cherish Pele and Mehk Susahu were sent to investigate the accumulation of Noise and the potential presence of an OOPArt that was detected recently. After their investigation of the Astral Wave resulted in confrontation with what appeared to be a Remnant of the Ninja Tribe, they moved on to Whazzap as their next area of interest to determine the cause of the phenomenon.
~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~
Arriving in Whazzap Village, Cherish felt more comfortable with her feet on solid ground once again. She was at a loss for what heading they should take from there, though, since Dr. Temple and Pedia weren't very specific on which part of the region that the anomaly was occurring in.
" So should we split up and look for the Noise Cluster? Or just ask around and see what the villagers know, first? "
Either approach sounded fine to her. Although Dr. Temple and Pedia said that the locals wouldn't be affected by them, it was fair to assume that the situation may have changed in the time that they had spent at their first location.
Stepping out of the Noise Wave, Dynamo King was shocked to find themselves unconverged in the center of the Whazzap village. Noise Waves could sometimes reset a Wave Being when they left one, but to be in a completely different location? Whatever was going on with these strange occurrences, the Noise Waves they were contending with were quite unlike anything they've dealt with before.
He didn't have time to linger on the question, however, as it was just like Cherish said; solid ground under their feet, with a lot of ground to cover, Mehk went into his Hunter V-G to initiate the mater-wave overlay in his chair. Instantly, the small floating chair changed in shape to be in his satella colors with a fair deal more bulk to make his purpose for being here clear.
". . . Yeah," he answered, at first, still looking around. Their weren't many villagers in the main section of the village. They had been deposited a stone's throw away from the large central gathering pillar, just within the shadow of their Statue of Mu. Looking through his visualizer, something must've happened to the statue recently, because it was off again - it wasn't releasing an incredible amount of EM Waves into the air.
As he glanced about, using his Visualizer to guide him, he could see that wasn't a foregone conclusion, after all. It was more suffice to say that the EM Waves it emitted were being absorbed so quickly into the Noise in the air that they weren't even able to properly form. The air in the space around them was so incredibly dense with Noise, the Wave World was dense with little pockets of Crimson floating in the air, Noisms floating about, and even the stray cluster of viruses surrounding a Noise Wave entrance just a little ways away from the one they just stepped free of.
"Cherish - Your visualizer," he prompted her, wanting her to see what he could see. The Wave World over Whazzap was in shambles, what Wave Roads it did have struggling to stay stabilized, in constant motion around incredibly dense pockets of Noise. Large clusters of Crimson floated freely in the air, causing the Wave World to collapse inward towards them, like a small star floating in the confines of space pulling in solar winds. Viruses were running rampant in the air, and ancient Mr. Hertz of all kinds were trying to find refuge on the small platforms or stray wave panels that were still functional. The ancient Wave energies released by the Murian technology of this place was holding itself together better than most areas would have, but it wasn't doing very well.
She supposed she should have had those on to begin with. However they came off after immediately leaving the Noise Wave in her EM Form was anybody's guess, but it was time to put them back on and observe what was going on here.
" No rest for the wicked, huh? "
Their work was cut out for them if they were going to purge the area of the viruses, but more likely the best approach was to get to the source and snuff it out again. This at least solved the mystery of where the anomaly had taken place, she figured. Wasting no time, she re-established her EM Form and motioned for Mehk to lead the way.
As Cherish initiated the Wave-Change function on her Hunter V-G, she would instead get a warning message:
You are in a Dead-Wave Zone. EM Wave Conversion is not possible. No Non-Noised Waves available.
Noise Level: 0%
A little informant bubble appeared just after this announcement.
Dead-Wave Zones are rare phenomena where an intense amount of EM Energy has been released and has caused the EM World in the area to completely degrade. These 'wounds' in the EM World take time to recover, and attempting to Wave Change in such an area is incredibly dangerous, if possible at all.
Dynamo King
No rest, indeed, he thought, as he saw Cherish begin to Wave Change. He went to follow in her footsteps, only to hear the message from her Hunter V-G. He had never encountered a Dead-Wave Zone before, he just knew that they existed, usually in either really remote parts of the world, in areas where a cataclysmic battle between wave beings took place, or in an area flooded with Noise and Crimson.
He supposed at this moment Whazzap qualified for such an event. He clicked his tongue.
"All of the Waves in the air are Noise irradiated. There aren't any actual typically behaving EM Waves in the area. Looks like we're on our old human selves for a bit, then."
Mehk turned in his chair and began floating towards the ruins, knowing that the holy grounds were an area of highly dense EM waves that may have been more difficult to erode away, even for all of this Noise. He still thought it was strange, not being able to see any villagers up to this point; not even a stray curious child was running around, the usually active village a complete ghost town.
The was quite the revelation, and it meant they were in a deeper mess than she first realized. Which was saying something, considering her initial assumptions.
Mehk seemed to have a plan in mind as he moved toward the ruins, Cherish following suit as her eyes continued scanning the area.
" Wasn't expecting it to be this bad. I can only imagine what's going on at the remaining locations. "
He listened to the concern in her voice, trying to maintain calm himself. It truth, she was right, it was a bit of a harrowing situation, for Whazzap of all places to be drowning in Noise like this. It wasn't an advanced society by any stretch of the word, still eons behind the rest of the world's advancements, everything given to the Whazzap culture falling into their lap from the ancient teachings of the Murian people that used to prowl these very sands.
As they moved past the village proper and began to tread into the valley where the Whazzap Lines were engraved, Mehk could only look around at the beautiful murals and engravings with awe, but his vision kept being distracted by the stray virus, Noise Wave, crimson cluster, or even a Noise Monster he saw flitting about, closer to one of the Whazzap Lines. While he was a little sick to his stomach, what, with the Noise so intense here, he at least was at ease knowing that the Wave World was so over flooded by Noise that it would be difficult for any of those things to actually harm the real world. Overhead, black and red lines floated through the air, crawling out of the Noise Waves that were opened up on the decrepit and decaying wave roads, as if the waves from the Noise Wave were invading and taking over the regular Waves. The black, geometric wave pattern of Noise crept over the usual colorful arrays of wave energy all in the air around them, something Mehk had never seen before.
"It is pretty dire, I will admit. I don't think that anywhere else would be this severe, though. Whazzap doesn't have good communication, and so its difficult for it to communicate when something is wrong to the rest of the world. There's no telling when this started, just how bad it is, but if other places were to descend into something like this, we'd know about it almost immediately."
He paused as he got to the edge of the first Whazzap Line, looking at the drawing of the Continent of Mu in the rock. As he glanced over at the other drawings, his vision trailed, and he reached out to grab Cherish immediately, pointing to the stairs up to the holy grounds. A massive, red-outlined Noise Wave was open at the very top of the stairway, a constant stream of Noise and crimson winds flooding out from it into the area around it.
" Well, at least that's one less thing to worry abo-- "
She was interrupted my Mehk's sudden gesture, bringing her attention to the large Noise Wave atop the stairway. She'd check to see if she was able to Wave Change now, but would assess her other options in the meantime. Still having very little knowledge on the science behind it all, she had to wonder if the original inhabitants of the village were missing because they had been turned into Jammers -- and a bit of a sick feeling crept over her, worrying what she'd do if there was an entire host of them waiting around somewhere.
Had they resorted to sharing more of their thoughts aloud, Mehk would've unfortunately had very similar fears to Cherish's. The continuous lack of villagers in the area led him to believe that they were contending with something very dire indeed, to say nothing of the massive Noise Wave that was present, blocking entrance to the ruins by the real world but making it impossible to interact with it using the Wave World.
He put a hand up to his chin in thought, rubbing his chin as he considered their options. "During the original Dealer incident years ago, their prototype Noise Generator only ever saw a few uses before Mr. King had properly resonated with Meteor G, effectively making the Noise Generator obsolete. If someone from the data breach has that prototype from our server logs, this much Noise should be more than feasible," he reasoned out, looking around at the other massive clusters of Noise in the space. He decided, for the time being, to leave the last bit of that thought to himself - as this should be more than feasible, and also, only just the beginning.
"While a little sacrilegious, my wave chair is a fully functional wave rider, so we can circumvent the actual stairs to the ruins simply by floating up. If you have the Matter Wave converter downloaded, you should be able to call a Wave Rider, as well."
He pulled up a screen and pushed a few buttons, engaging the propulsion jets on the bottom of his chair. In the dense Noise, the ride was anything but smooth, and he couldn't maintain it for very long, but after bumbily riding along on the turbulence, he was able to clear the climb and make it to the grassy outcropping atop the stairs, avoiding the massive Noise Wave at the bottom.
From this perspective, he could better see the ruins. The Hertz that normally occupied this space, the unique Hertz of the Murian culture, were nowhere to be found. The only remnants of them were the flaming Mr. Hertz set up on the pedestals throughout the space, which kept the Wave World held together by the dictate of Le Mu, even in her slumber beneath the sea. Now, further into the ruins, he checked the Noise Gauge to see if their were any non-noised Waves, and even here, the powerful, dense waves of the Murian artifacts were nulled out by the Noise.
Awaiting them at the top of the stairwell, an EM being, a Wizard not converged with any warrior, floated just above the ruins, looking around and seeming damaged, tired, even. The red, bird-like wizard turned its attention on them once they approached, the legendary UMA Herald by the name of Condor being this ancient site's natural protector. It looked haggard and tired, and, at least for the time being, the UMA didn't seem capable of Wave Changing, and it hadn't dedicated itself to attempting to destroy the two of them. He'd consider this an absolute victory, for now, and waited for Cherish to join him.
Cherish's perplexed expression at Mehk's mention of the Matter Wave converter said it all: she wasn't just inexperienced with the Wave World, she was inexperienced with modern technology in general.
" The...? "
' I've got it, Cher. '
As always, David had things covered on that front as a Wave Rider materialized for her to follow along.
Turbulent though it was, they made it to the intended destination and worked their way inside. The sight of the condor was disconcerting, but luckily it was non-hostile for the time being.
" At least now we can find out what happened here. "
The Condor likely knew the full story. Cherish would have approached and asked herself, but since Mehk was the superior in rank, she'd refrain from overstepping her boundary and would leave the talking to him instead, if he judged it wise to begin with. There was no telling if it'd suddenly change its behavior if they drew closer.
